Terms of Service

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the SplitOwl mobile app and website (the "Service"). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use SplitOwl.

1. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old (or the minimum age of digital consent in your country) and able to form a binding contract to use SplitOwl.

2. What SplitOwl is

SplitOwl helps you and your friends or groups record shared expenses and see who owes whom. SplitOwl is a record-keeping and calculation tool only. It does not process, hold, transfer, or guarantee any payments, and it is not a bank, payment processor, money-transmitter, or provider of financial, accounting, or legal advice.

3. Your account

• You are responsible for the accuracy of the information you provide and for keeping your login credentials secure.
• You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account.
• Notify us promptly at [email protected] if you suspect unauthorized use.

4. Your content and balances

You and your group members are solely responsible for the expenses, amounts, notes, and settlements you enter. SplitOwl simply calculates balances from what users provide. We are not responsible for disputes between users, for the accuracy of entered data, or for the settlement of any debts shown in the app — these are matters strictly between you and the other people involved.

5. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

• Use the Service for any unlawful, fraudulent, or harmful purpose.
• Attempt to access accounts or data that are not yours, or disrupt or reverse-engineer the Service.
• Upload malicious code, spam other users, or misuse invitations or contacts features.

6. Service availability

We aim to keep SplitOwl available and reliable, but the Service is provided "as is" and may change, be interrupted, or be discontinued. We do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free operation.

7. Disclaimers

To the fullest extent permitted by law, SplitOwl is provided without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose and accuracy of calculations. You use the Service at your own risk.

8. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, SplitOwl and its operators will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, or for any loss arising from disputes between users, inaccurate data, or unsettled balances. Our total liability for any claim relating to the Service will not exceed the amount you paid us (if any) in the 12 months before the claim.

9. Termination

You may stop using SplitOwl and delete your account at any time from within the app. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms or harm the Service or other users.

10. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. We will update the "Last updated" date and, where appropriate, notify you in the app. Continued use after changes means you accept the updated Terms.

11. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of India, without regard to conflict-of-law principles, and disputes will be subject to the courts located in India, unless a different mandatory law applies to you as a consumer.
